Investment Focus

Alameda provides value-added venture capital to promising young companies that are commercializing innovative products based on the convergence of advanced materials, information technology and/or life sciences. We believe that such multi-disciplinary companies have the potential to transform large existing markets with technology that is difficult for competitors to replicate. We have a special interest in funding entrepreneurs who are developing compelling solutions based on disruptive microfluidics, MEMS or nanotechnologies.

What We Look For

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Sensors (e.g. biochips, security, environmental, other) and controls
• Displays
• Photovoltaic systems
• Fuel cells
• Advanced batteries
• Memory and storage devices
• Integrated photonics systems
• Next generation semiconductor devices
• Next generation drug discovery tools
• Smart materials

Although we focus primarily on seed and early stage investments, we will consider select later stage opportunities that fit within our investment strategy. Where we act as the lead investor, we must be readily accessible to the management team and therefore those investments will tend to aggregate around the US West Coast. This enables us to more actively help management teams develop their strategies and successfully grow their companies. We are happy, however, to consider investments in other geographies when there is an active local lead investor who shares many of our same investment philosophies. Alameda
